**Synopsis:**
*Amaran* is a biographical war drama about Major Mukund Varadarajan, an Indian Army officer from the 44th Battalion of the Rashtriya Rifles, who was killed in action during an operation in Kashmir. The film follows Mukund’s journey from his college days at Madras Christian College, where he aspired to join the military, to his rigorous training at the Officers Training Academy, and his career in the army. It also highlights his relationship with his wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese, and his family life.

**Review:**
Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, *Amaran* explores the life of Major Mukund with a mix of heartfelt and action-packed moments. Unlike typical Tamil films where the hero always triumphs, *Amaran* carries a bittersweet tone, knowing that Mukund's story ends in his tragic death. The film respectfully portrays Mukund’s bravery, especially in its final scenes, choosing dignity over melodrama.

The movie starts slowly, focusing on Mukund’s early life and love story with Indhu, which feels unconvincing at first. However, the story gains momentum once he enters military training. The action scenes are thrilling and highlight the camaraderie among the soldiers, making the audience care about Mukund and his colleagues. Supporting actors, including Bhuvan Arora, Rahul Bose, and Geetha Kailasam as Mukund’s mother, deliver strong performances.

Sivakarthikeyan shines in his role, especially once he dons the military uniform, embodying Mukund’s courage. Sai Pallavi plays Indhu with her usual emotional depth, though her attempts at speaking Malayalam are distracting due to pronunciation issues, showing a common flaw in casting choices in Tamil cinema.

There are moments of forced references, like the name-dropping of popular movies, which feel out of place. Despite these issues, *Amaran* is a moving tribute that celebrates Major Mukund Varadarajan’s heroism, leaving viewers with a sense of respect for his legacy.
