Vedaa : The film strikes a blow against social injustice

Unread post by spslf »

*Vedaa* presents itself as a modern Western set in a harsh landscape, focusing on Major Abhimanyu Kanwar (John Abraham) aiding a young girl, Vedaa (Sharvari), who seeks justice after experiencing an honor killing in her family. Abhimanyu becomes her trainer, helping her pursue her dream of becoming a boxer despite opposition. However, his overshadowing presence detracts from Vedaa’s character arc, and the film's climax, where Abhimanyu intervenes violently in court, undermines Vedaa’s struggle for justice.

Abhishek Banerjee's portrayal of the villainous Pradhan is particularly strong, while Sharvari effectively showcases Vedaa's growth from a naive girl to a courageous woman. Though John Abraham fits well into his role, his character’s development lacks depth. The film succeeds as an action movie but falters in delivering its social message effectively. Director Nikkhil Advani deserves praise for highlighting the ongoing discrimination against Dalits but misses the mark by sidelining Vedaa’s empowerment story.
