Lust Stories
Lust Stories
*Lust Stories* explores the complexities of modern relationships and sexual desires through four interconnected short films. Directed by Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee, and Karan Johar, each story delves into themes of love, lust, and emotional entanglements.
In Kashyap's story, Radhika Apte plays a professor encouraged by her husband to explore polyandry. She seduces a student, but despite trying to keep it casual, she becomes emotionally attached, leading to a compelling portrayal of obsession. Apte excels in her role, gradually shifting from jealousy to a "psycho girlfriend" persona.
Akhtar's contribution focuses on a brief but intense sexual relationship between Bhumi Pednekar and Neil Bhoopalam, where their emotional disconnect becomes apparent. Bhumi’s performance, marked by her expressive eyes, beautifully captures the heartache of unrequited love.
Banerjee's story deals with adultery and friendship. Manisha Koirala plays a woman in a loveless marriage with Sanjay Kapoor, who finds emotional and physical fulfillment in her affair with his best friend, Jaideep Ahlawat. The story is a mature take on complex relationships, with strong performances from all actors.
Karan Johar's segment is the most lighthearted, focusing on sexual satisfaction as a right, with Kiara Advani and Vicky Kaushal as a young couple, and Neha Dhupia as a librarian exploring her desires. It blends boldness with thoughtful commentary on women's sexual agency.
Although releasing on Netflix, *Lust Stories* would have benefited from a wider theatrical release.
