Escape From New York
Escape From New York
In a dystopian future, New York City has been transformed into a maximum-security prison, surrounded by a 50-foot wall and mines on the bridges. When the President’s plane is hijacked by terrorists, the President (Donald Pleasence) manages to escape in an emergency pod—but it crashes in Manhattan, now a lawless, chaotic island. The government sends in Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell), a disgraced ex-soldier and convicted criminal, to rescue the President. In exchange, they promise him a pardon—but they inject him with "micro explosives" that will detonate if he doesn’t complete the mission in 24 hours. Plissken's mission is complicated by the dangers of the prison-island, including violent gangs and corrupt figures. The film is a mix of science fiction, action, and dystopian themes, set in a grim vision of the future.
