Rajesh Khanna (born Jatin Khanna; 29 December 1942 – 18 July 2012) was a legendary Indian actor, film producer, and politician, hailed as the first Superstar of Indian cinema. Recognized as one of the most successful actors in Indian film history, he won five Filmfare Awards and received the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honor, posthumously in 2013.
Khanna debuted with *Aakhri Khat* (1966), which became India’s first official entry to the Academy Awards in 1967. Over his illustrious career, he delivered several iconic performances and blockbusters, including *Aradhana* (1969), *Anand* (1971), *Kati Patang* (1971), *Amar Prem* (1972), and *Namak Haraam* (1973). Known for his romantic charm and emotive depth, he enjoyed a massive fan following, setting a benchmark for stardom in Indian cinema.
In addition to his acting achievements, Khanna received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005 during the 50th anniversary of the Filmfare Awards. Beyond cinema, he ventured into politics, serving as a Member of Parliament from 1992 to 1996 for the New Delhi constituency as an Indian National Congress representative.
Khanna married actress Dimple Kapadia in 1973, shortly before her debut in *Bobby*. The couple had two daughters, Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna. Twinkle is a former actress and married to Bollywood star Akshay Kumar.
Rajesh Khanna passed away on 18 July 2012 after battling an illness. His legacy is commemorated with a stamp, a statue, and a road named in his honor, reflecting his enduring influence on Indian cinema and culture.
