Ranbir Kapoor (born 28 September 1982) is a prominent Indian actor known for his work in Hindi cinema. As one of the highest-paid actors in the industry, Kapoor has been featured in Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list since 2012 and has won several accolades, including seven Filmfare Awards.
Born into the legendary Kapoor family, he is the son of actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, and the grandson of actor-director Raj Kapoor. Kapoor studied filmmaking at the School of Visual Arts and method acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. He began his career assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the film *Black* (2005) and made his acting debut with Bhansali's *Saawariya* (2007), which was a critical and commercial failure.
Kapoor gained recognition with the coming-of-age film *Wake Up Sid* (2009), the romantic comedy *Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani* (2009), and the political drama *Raajneeti* (2010). His performances in *Rockstar* (2011), where he played a troubled musician, and *Barfi!* (2012), portraying a cheerful deaf-and-mute man, won him consecutive Filmfare Awards for Best Actor. The romantic comedy *Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani* (2013) further cemented his status as a leading star.
After experiencing a series of commercial failures, Kapoor achieved success with *Ae Dil Hai Mushkil* (2016) and the biographical drama *Sanju* (2018), where his portrayal of Sanjay Dutt earned him another Filmfare Best Actor award. More recently, he found success with the fantasy epic *Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva* (2022) and the action drama *Animal* (2023), the latter becoming his highest-grossing release and securing him a fourth Best Actor award at Filmfare.
Beyond acting, Kapoor supports charitable causes and is a co-owner of the Indian Super League football team Mumbai City FC. He is married to actress Alia Bhatt, and the couple has a daughter.
