Salman Khan (born 27 December 1965) is a prominent Indian actor, film producer, and television personality, best known for his work in Hindi films. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he has become one of the most commercially successful actors in Indian cinema. Khan has received several accolades, including two National Film Awards as a producer and two Filmfare Awards for acting. He is also a regular feature on Forbes' lists of the highest-paid celebrities, ranking as the highest-paid Indian actor in 2018.
Khan made his acting debut in 1988 with a supporting role in *Biwi Ho To Aisi* but rose to fame with his lead role in the romantic drama *Maine Pyar Kiya* (1989), which earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. His popularity grew with a series of successful films, including *Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994)*, *Hum Saath-Saath Hain* (1999), and action films like *Karan Arjun* (1995) and *Biwi No.1* (1999). After experiencing a series of ups and downs in his career, Khan achieved major success with action-packed blockbusters starting with *Wanted* (2009) and continuing with films like *Dabangg* (2010), *Ek Tha Tiger* (2012), *Kick* (2014), *Bajrangi Bhaijaan* (2015), and *Sultan* (2016). His more recent film *Tiger 3* (2023) also performed well at the box office.
Apart from his acting career, Khan is a television host, best known for presenting the reality show *Bigg Boss* since 2010. He is also involved in humanitarian efforts through his charity, the Being Human Foundation.
However, Khan’s off-screen life has been marred by controversies and legal issues. He was convicted in 2015 for a case involving negligent driving, in which he ran over five people, resulting in one death, but the conviction was overturned on appeal. In 2018, he was convicted in a blackbuck poaching case, for which he was sentenced to five years in prison, though he is currently out on bail while his appeal is heard.
