Dhokha: Round D Corner
*Dhokha: Round D Corner* is a psychological thriller filled with suspense and twists, keeping the audience on edge with its unpredictable narrative. The story follows a troubled couple, Yatharth Sinha (R Madhavan) and Sanchi Sinha (Khushalii Kumar), whose marriage is on the rocks. While Yatharth is away, a terrorist, Haq Gul (Aparshakti Khurana), breaks into their Mumbai home and takes Sanchi hostage. ACP Harishchandra Malik (Darshan Kumaar), a dedicated cop, is hot on the terrorist's trail. However, the situation is far more complicated than it appears. Sanchi suffers from a multiple personality disorder, which adds a layer of complexity to the tense stand-off. As the film unfolds, secrets are revealed, and nothing is quite what it seems. Each character has their own version of the truth, and the narrative keeps shifting, making the audience question who can be trusted.
The film uses a multiple-narrative format, where each main character presents their own perspective, often embellishing the truth. This creates a story with various versions of events, keeping viewers guessing. The story explores shades of grey, with no character being entirely good or bad. It effectively captures the essence of noir, where duplicity and hidden motives come to the forefront when people are pushed to their limits.
Director Kookie Gulati skillfully navigates the psychological thriller genre, though the second half of the film does drag a bit, and some of the end-credit scenes featuring Aparshakti feel unnecessary. Despite this, the film’s premise and structure make it an engaging watch for thriller enthusiasts.
Khushalii Kumar, in her debut role, stands out as Sanchi. Taking on a challenging character with a mental disorder, she manages to transition between different personalities convincingly. Her strong performance is a promising start to her acting career. R Madhavan, known for his versatility, excels in his role as the husband with dark secrets, slipping into a morally ambiguous character with ease. Darshan Kumaar delivers a solid performance as the determined cop, while Aparshakti Khurana surprises in a dramatic role, portraying the naive, mentally strained terrorist with depth.
*Dhokha: Round D Corner* offers a tense, multi-layered thriller experience, with well-crafted performances and a plot full of unexpected twists. It’s a good pick for fans of psychological thrillers who enjoy films with complex characters and narrative uncertainty.
